When Eva and Brooke invited me over for a bread making workshop, needless to say I was a tad apprehensive. I love bread but we’ve never really been true friends. I did a lot of research and found a rye bread recipe that seemed pretty easy, so I gave it a go and was happily surprised by the results. It turns out that I can stomach small amounts of home-made rye bread! Take away all the nasty pasty chemicals and preservatives and perhaps there’s a chance for us all to enjoy an occasional slice!
It was really fun making the bread and amazingly easy. I ended up using nearly all rye flour and only a touch of wheat. I cooked the bread on a pizza stone and was so excited that I made more the next day for family members.
Not only that, but I could finally entertain my bread making fantasies which are constantly inspired by Kerry Greenwood’s fantastic series of funny detective novels (based in Melbourne) titled ‘Early Delights‘.
The recipe I used can be found on an awesome blog called Pete Bakes http://www.peterandrewryan.com/baking/2008/11/deli-style-rye-bread/
